Step-by-Step

How to Get Your Machine Ready to Ride

  1. 01

    Check Tires & Pressure

Inspect tread depth against the wear bars and look for sidewall cracks. Set pressure to the manufacturer's spec.

  2. 02

    Test Brakes & Fluid

Squeeze for a firm lever, check pad thickness, and replace brake fluid that looks dark. Spongy brakes usually mean air in the line or old fluid.

  3. 03

    Inspect Chain, Belt & Fluids

Clean and adjust the chain or check belt wear, then verify engine oil and coolant levels. Fresh fluids after winter storage prevent hard starts and overheating.

  4. 04

    Start It & Listen

If it's hard to start, only runs on choke, or smokes, that's a fuel or top-end issue — bring it to Arkansas Motorsports Adventure at 501-241-1091 before the season starts.

FAQ

Repair & Maintenance — FAQ

What are the signs a carburetor needs cleaning or rebuilding?+

The classic signs are hard starting, rough running, and an engine that only fires with the choke on. Those point to gummed-up jets or a worn carb. Ultrasonic cleaning usually restores it; badly worn carbs may need a rebuild.

Should I rebuild or replace my engine?+

A full rebuild isn't always necessary. If compression is low and there's smoke or knocking, a top-end rebuild often fixes it for far less than a replacement. We assess both 2-stroke and 4-stroke motors and recommend the cheaper option that lasts.

How do I know when my motorcycle or ATV tires need replacing?+

Replace tires when tread is worn past the wear bars, when you see sidewall cracking, or when the tire is more than about 5 years old regardless of tread. Proper mounting and balancing matter just as much as tread on both dirt and street.

Why do fork seals leak and is it worth fixing?+

Fork seals leak when the seal lip dries out or a nicked fork tube tears it. It's worth fixing because leaking forks lose damping, which hurts handling and braking. Fork seal replacement is a routine, affordable repair at Arkansas Motorsports Adventure.

What causes a clutch to slip on a dirt bike or ATV?+

A slipping clutch is usually worn friction plates, weak clutch springs, or the wrong oil. The fix is a clutch rebuild with fresh plates and springs. Riding with a slipping clutch wears other drivetrain parts, so it's best addressed early.

What should I check before riding season starts?+

Check tires and pressure, brakes and fluid, chain or belt, fork and shock action, coolant or oil, air filter, battery, controls, lights, and fasteners. Arkansas Motorsports Adventure uses this same 10-point pre-season checklist in the shop.
